Final
Oswego: 44 (1-3, 0-0 SUNYAC)
Amherst: 61 (3-0, 0-0 NESCAC)
Location: Amherst, Mass | LeFrak Gymnasium
How it Happened
The Lakers led a competitive, spirited effort in the first half, with the Lakers trading buckets with the Mammoths for much of the beginning 20 minutes. The first quarter was led by Grad Student Zhane Holmes (Elmira, NY / Elmira High School), as Holmes put together a quick eight points, to go along with two offensive rebounds.
The second quarter was much of the same as the first quarter, as both teams were extremely sound defensively, with both teams shooting around 30% from the field in the first half. This time, it was Junior Bri Weaver (North Syracuse, NY Cicero North Syracuse High School), leading the Lakers in scoring with five points, to go along with two rebounds and a block. The Lakers ended the half with a narrow one point lead, 32-31.
Amherst got things going in the third quarter with efficient shooting and stout defense, as the Mammoths shot nearly 57% from the field, as well as forcing four Oswego turnovers in the quarter as they jumped out to a 17 point lead headed into the fourth quarter, a lead which proved insurmountable in the end.
Senior Giavanna White-Principio (Waterloo, NY Waterloo High School) led the Lakers in both scoring and rebounding, as she was one point away from a double-double. Freshman Guard Madison Aikens (Nyack, NY Nyack High School) made her presence known off the bench, as she registered stats in every major category.
What's Next
The Lakers have a few days off to enjoy Thanksgiving before they are back in action on Sunday, November 30th, where they will take on Middlebury. Tip-off for that game is at 3:00 P.M.
