Middlebury, VT. - The Oswego State Lakers Women's Basketball team was once again on the road after a short break. This time they took on another tough road opponent, the Panthers of Middlebury College.
The Basics
Final
Oswego: 40 (1-4, 0-0 SUNYAC)
Middlebury: 50 (4-2, 0-0 NESCAC)
Location: Middlebury, VT | Pepin Gymnasium
How it Happened
Oswego came out strong defensively, holding Middlebury to eight points in the opening frame and matching the Panthers shot for shot.
Zhane Holmes provided an early spark, knocking down a trio of threes on her way to 15 points, and
Sarah Hirschler added seven points while helping set the tone on the interior.
The Lakers briefly pushed ahead 12–8 early in the second quarter, but Middlebury closed the half on a 14–4 run, capitalizing on a few Oswego turnovers and cold stretches to take a 22–16 lead into the break. That momentum carried into the third quarter, where the Panthers hit multiple timely threes to extend their advantage.
Still, Oswego refused to fold. White-Principio controlled the paint on both ends in the fourth, recording multiple put-backs and a pair of emphatic blocks to keep the Lakers within striking distance. Holmes added a late three to cut the deficit to 12, and Oswego's defense held Middlebury to just 11 fourth-quarter points, but the Lakers couldn't overcome the earlier scoring drought.
Oswego finished with 40 rebounds, including 15 offensive boards and earned 10 second-chance points, but shot 25 percent from the field in the loss.
