#10 Lakers Take Down #5 Geneseo on the Road Behind Huge Game from McCarthy

Geneseo, NY – In a matchup between two of the nation's elite programs, the No. 10-ranked Oswego State men's hockey team earned an impressive 1–0 shutout victory over No. 5 Geneseo on Friday night.

The Basics
#10 Oswego -1 (1-0-0, 0-0-0 SUNYAC)
#5 Geneseo – 0 (1-1-1, 0-0-0 UCHC)
Ira S Wilson Arena, Geneseo, NY

How It Happened
The Lakers secured the win behind stellar goaltending from Gavin McCarthy, who stopped all 54 shots he faced to record his first shutout of the season. The senior netminder stood tall against one of the top offensive units in Division III, turning away multiple scoring chances throughout the night, including several key stops in the closing minutes as the Lakers preserved the lead.

Oswego's lone goal came early in the second period on the power play. Cam Symons broke the scoreless deadlock at 4:27, burying a feed from Travis Baker and Tommy Bannister. The goal stood as both the game-winner and the first of the season for Symons.

The Lakers' special teams played a crucial role, killing off all three Geneseo power plays and converting on their only opportunity of the night. Defensively, Oswego blocked 14 shots and won several key faceoffs down the stretch to secure the victory.

With the win, Oswego (1–0–0) opens its season with a statement, handing Geneseo (1–1–1) its first regulation loss of the year.

What's Next
The Lakers will return home tomorrow to host the Brockport Golden Eagles for another non-conference game at the Deb Starting at 7:00 PM. This will also be Military Appreciation Night!
