Lakers Score 20 Runs on Fredonia; Sweep Double Header

OSWEGO, NY. - After losing a lead in the 8th inning to Fredonia yesterday, The SUNY Oswego Baseball team hosted a double header against the Blue Devils this afternoon.

 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Game 1

Oswego 20   ( 9-6, 3-2 SUNYAC )

Fredonia 1    (8-5, 1-1 SUNYAC )

 

Game 2

Oswego 8  ( 10-6, 4-2 SUNYAC )

Fredonia 6 (8-6, 1-2 SUNYAC )

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

The Lakers wasted no time getting to work, as Daniel Winchester drove in the first run in the top of the first on an RBI-single. Matt Carner scored on a wild pitch, advancing both Winchester and Tishawn Featherstone. Felix De Asa Delacruz made it 3-0 after being walked with the bases loaded, bringing home another Laker run, and Winchester scored on a passed ball, making it 4-0 Oswego at the end of the first.

 

Jason Sanders took the mound for the Lakers, and dominated, giving up zero runs in 5 innings pitched.
Dylan Rosenberg hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to improve Oswego's lead to 5,  and Tishawn Featherstone made it 6, after a defensive error while stealing third.

In the bottom of the third, Dylan Rosenberg hit a 2-RBI single, driving home Brendan Mair and Felix De Asa Delacruz, and making it an 8-0 game. Tishawn Featherstone did the same just three batters later, scoring Rosenberg as well as Joe McLaughlin, and giving the Lakers a 10-0 lead in the third inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Lakers had the bases loaded, and TJ Harrington was walked, scoring Trey McGowan. Brendan Mair made it 14-0 with a 3-RBI double, scoring TJ Harrington, Jake Lukasiewicz, and Patrick May. Felix De Asa Delacruz would tack on an RBI-double, and Trey McGowan an RBI-single, making it 16-0 going into the sixth.

Danny Moccio came in for the top of the sixth, relieving Jason Sanders, and gave up 1 run before the inning ended.

Ben Rollison doubled to center field in the bottom of the sixth, scoring both Jake Lukasiewicz and Jordan Ynoa. Daniel Winchester then scored on a passed ball,  followed immediately by a single from Emil Sander, scoring Rollison and improving Oswego's lead to 20-1 going into the seventh.

Neither team would score in the seventh, as the Lakers took game one in dominant fashion, winning 20-1.

Game 2

Jonah Shearer got the start on the mound for game two of the double header, and the Fredonia Blue Devils wasted no time, scoring 3 runs in the first inning.

Tishawn Featherstone got one back for the Lakers in the bottom of the first, driving Daniel Winchester home with an RBI-double, and making it 3-1 going into the second.

In the bottom of the third with two outs the Lakers had the bases loaded, and Matt Carner was walked, scoring Dylan Rosenberg. Trey McGowan was then hit by a pitch, followed by TJ Harrington being walked, scoring both Daniel Winchester and Tishawn Featherstone, and giving Oswego a 4-3 lead. Anthony Barone then hit a 3-RBI double, scoring TJ Harrington, Trey McGowan, and Matt Carner, and making it 7-3 going into the fourth.

Fredonia got one back in the top of the fourth on a solo homer, making it 7-4 as Sean Dertinger came in to close out the inning for the Lakers from the mound. Anthony Barone hit an RBI-double, scoring TJ Harrington in the top of the fifth.

Fredonia got a run back in the top of the sixth, as well as another in the seventh, improving the deficit and making it 8-6. The Lakers then brought in Will Coleman hoping to close out the game. Coleman did exactly that, allowing no hits on 7 batters faced, and earning the save for the Lakers in a 8-6 victory,

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Lakers will rest up this weekend, and be back in action next Tuesday, April 1st for a double header against Alfred State starting at 1:00PM.
