OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego Women's Lacrosse returned to home turf this afternoon to face off against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos. Looking to continue the success they have found thus far; the Lakers came out of the gate flying. An offensively charged first half would award Oswego a comfortable 13-2 lead, heading into a shortened halftime due to inclimate weather. Undeterred, the Lakers jumped right back on offense in the 3rd quarter. Now facing an 11-goal deficit, Canton called a timeout to reconvene, but all that would come of it was a 9-minute scoring drought for both teams. This dry spell would eventually be broken by the Roos, leaving the score standing at 13-4 entering the final frame. An early 14th goal would activate running time for the remainder of play, so the Lakers kept their foot on the gas, securing a 15-4 victory over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A quick draw control and transition by Oswego would put the Kangaroos on defense almost immediately. The Lakers wasted no time getting shots on net, but only that of first year Addison Costello would surpass opposing netminder, Olivia Scott, making it 1-0 just 0:56 seconds into play. Alexis Hill would be charged for a dangerous check, giving Canton the offensive advantage for the next 3 minutes. Undeterred, the Lakers regained possession on a groundball sending the ball up field. Graduate student Madison Davis followed Costello's initiative, notching a 2nd goal (man-down) at the 12:06 mark. A minute and a half later, a series of perimeter passes gave Julia Quirk a lane down the center of the 8-meter, on which she would finish. Extending Oswego's lead to 3-0 at 10:24. The Lakers generated a prime free-position opportunity for Cassidy Croce on the following play, adding a fourth goal to the tally off a strong side-arm shot. As the first quarter clock began to wind down, the Roos finally found a way to counter Oswego's 4-unanswered goals, but the Lakers only raised the stakes closing out the quarter up 7-1.
Without hesitation, Oswego picked up right where they left off, putting an eighth goal on the board on their first possession in the 2nd quarter. As the beginning minutes continued to get underway, the Lakers benefitted from a green card charged against Canton midfielder, Jaedyn Awan. When play returned to even-strength, Oswego kept the pressure on, securing two back-to-back free-position goals at 10:41 and 10:08, but the Kangaroos managed to respond with a goal of their own two minutes later at the 7:52 mark. A few scoreless minutes would be rectified by a shot to the lower left corner from Alexis Hill with 2:44 remaining in the second quarter. A green card charged to Mackenzie Winn at the 1:43 mark would unfortunately award Canton their 3rd goal. Improving the scoreline to 11-3 just seconds before halftime.
Due to inclimate weather, both teams would only be given a brief 5-minute break to catch their breath, but that did not bother the Lakers, jumping right back on offense off the draw. A patient possession by Oswego would develop a sneaky low feed play from Madison Davis, supplying Alexis Hill with her third goal of the game at 11:26 on the doorstep. Hill would find the back of the net once more in the succeeding minute, increasing the Lakers' lead to 13-3. Now facing an 11-goal deficit, Canton called a timeout to reconvene, but all that would come of it was a 9-minute scoring drought for both teams. A wide free-position attempt would be recovered by the Kangaroos and taken downfield by Olivia McCormick. Despite having to fight off two defenders, McCormick still found a way to put the ball through the legs of Alana Iacovissi at 0:59, leaving the score standing at 13-4 heading into the final frame.
An early 14th goal scored by Sophie Ruschin regained Oswego's 10-goal lead, activating running time for the rest of the game. As the fourth quarter continued to unfold, both teams struggled equally to handle the ball due to wintry conditions, but the Lakers still managed to find a fifteenth and final goal before the buzzer, securing a 15-4 victory over the SUNY Canton Kangaroos.
