OSWEGO, NY – SUNY Oswego Athletics proudly announces the student-athletes of the month for May 2025. Congratulations to Elena Gaffney and Daniel Mars from the Oswego Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field team.

Dan Mars has been named the Oswego Student-Athlete of the Month for May after a record-setting month on the track. On May 2nd, Mars broke the program's 100-meter record with a blazing time of 10.78 seconds at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships. His outstanding season also included earning the second-fastest time in school history in the 200-meter dash (22.03). In addition to his individual success, Mars contributed to team history as a key member of the 4x100-meter relay squad that set a new school record with a time of 41.94. His performances have cemented his place among the top sprinters in Oswego history. Mar's is a junior with the Lakers and came to Oswego from Central Islip, NY.

Elena Gaffney has been named the Oswego Student-Athlete of the Month for May following a standout month on the track. On May 14th, Gaffney set a new school record in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 17:56.25. Earlier in the month, she posted the fourth-fastest time in program history in the 1500-meter, clocking in at 4:52.01 on May 3rd. Her remarkable performance throughout the season earned her Second Team All-Conference honors in the SUNYAC, highlighting her as one of the top distance runners in the league. This was Elena's freshman season with Oswego and she is from Freeville, NY.
