Houghton, NY -The Lakers men's & women's indoor track & field teams were back in action this Saturday at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton University.

The day opened in dominant fashion as
Kyra Pellegrino captured
first place in the women's 5000m, crossing the line in
18:20.78. The performance not only qualified Pellegrino for
regionals, but also etched her name into the program record book, ranking
third all-time in Lakers indoor history. Oswego continued to control the distance events as
Elena Gaffney won the
women's mile in
5:18.12, narrowly missing the regional standard, while
Noah Melita placed
fourth in the men's mile with a time of
4:37.66.
In sprint hurdles,
Cory Morton delivered a strong showing in the
men's 60m hurdles, finishing
sixth overall in
8.99, while
Kaleigh Durso (11.07) and
Teagan Roy (11.08) placed
ninth and tenth, respectively, in the women's event. Durso also added a
sixth-place finish in the
women's high jump, clearing
1.40 meters.
Oswego saw consistent success in the middle-distance events.
Hannah Reichard claimed
first place in the women's 800m with a time of
2:23.91, while
Sophia Shatynski finished
fourth in the
women's 600m (2:18.92). On the men's side,
Joseph Gleason placed
sixth in the 600m (1:40.56), and
Jeffery Simmons earned a
second-place finish in the
men's 800m with a time of
1:58.44, followed by Melita in
fifth (2:06.11). Simmons later returned to help anchor the men's 4x400 relay.
In the sprints,
Daiya Kowalski recorded a
personal best in the
women's 60m, finishing
eighth overall in
8.47, and followed that up with a
seventh-place finish in the
200m (28.34).
Alannah Edwards added a
sixth-place result in the
women's 400m with a time of
1:09.68.
Distance strength remained a theme as
Nahemiah Daniel captured
first place in the men's 3000m, clocking
9:01.92. In relay action, the
women's 4x400 team of Gaffney, Reichard, Angelina Buttigieg, and Shatynski placed
fourth with a time of
4:49.98, while the
men's 4x400 relay—Simmons, Tom Mahunik,
Miles Thompson, and
Evan Young—finished
sixth in
3:45.55.
In the field events,
Eric Gordon-Wheeler led the way with a
third-place finish in the
men's weight throw (14.28), while
Michael Carlson followed in
seventh (12.78). Morton capped off an impressive meet by placing
seventh in the
men's long jump (6.31) before taking home
first place in the triple jump with a mark of
13.27.
What's Next
The Lakers will have a short break until February 6
th when they will head to SUNY Brockport.
