How it Happened
In an identical scoreline to their matchup in early November, this time, Oswego ends up on the winning side of a 2-1 scoreline against William Smith College.
A quick start by both teams as the first period saw every goal that was scored in the game. Freshman Lilliana Ficaro (South Windsor, CT South Windsor High School) collected her third goal of the season to open the scoring just 5:46 into the game. The Lakers doubled up just two minutes later, as Senior Brittany Iversen (Lake Forest, CA Endicott College) found Junior Leah Coley (Valencia, CA Oakville Hornets) for the second goal. William Smith was able to answer just one minute later, and the buzzer sounded for an action-packed first 20 minutes.
Both teams had opportunities in the following 40 minutes to capitalize, as Oswego had two powerplays in the second period, and William Smith also had two powerplays in the third period, however both penalty kill units proved to be insurmountable. Oswego also neutralized the lone empty net scenario in the third period, as the last 1:08 of game time allowed William Smith just one shot that was not blocked by a Laker, which went wide.
What's Next
This game concluded the regular season for the Lakers. Oswego was awarded the #2 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament, where they will host the winner of Potsdam vs Cortland. The game will take place on February 25th, with a time yet to be announced.
