Rochester, NY - The Laker women's lacrosse team traveled to Rochester on Friday afternoon to take on the RIT Tigers for their second game of the week.
Basics
Oswego: 5 (1-3, 0-0 SUNYAC)
RIT: 8 (4-0, 0-0 Liberty League)
Rochester, NY | Doug May Field
How It Happened
Oswego opened the contest with early momentum, striking twice in the first quarter to take a quick lead. Gianna Zerillo got the Lakers on the board first, finishing an early opportunity to give Oswego a 1–0 advantage. Moments later,
Abigail Dicks found the back of the net to extend the lead to 2–0.
RIT responded after a green card on the Lakers created an opportunity for the Tigers, who capitalized to cut the deficit to 2–1. The remainder of the first quarter featured a tightly contested battle, with both teams trading possessions while the two goalkeepers came up with several key saves to keep scoring limited.
The Tigers carried that momentum into the second quarter, opening the frame with a man-up goal to even the score at 2–2. Defensive pressure remained high on both sides as scoring chances were difficult to come by. Late in the quarter, however, RIT broke through with a momentum-shifting goal that sent the Tigers into halftime holding a 3–2 lead.
Midway through the third quarter, a failed clear by the Lakers allowed RIT to capitalize, stretching its advantage to 4–2. The Tigers added another shortly after to push the lead to 5–2 before Oswego halted the run.
Ava Gerardi converted on a crucial free-position shot late in the quarter, trimming the deficit to 5–3 heading into the final period.
RIT wasted little time adding insurance in the fourth quarter, scoring early to move ahead 6–3. Oswego refused to go away quietly, as Dicks netted her second goal of the game to bring the Lakers within two.
Cassidy Croce followed with another strike, cutting the deficit to just one at 6–5 and injecting new life into the Oswego sideline.
The Tigers answered with back-to-back goals to regain control and extend the lead to 8–5 late in the fourth. Despite a determined effort down the stretch, the Lakers were unable to close the gap.
