Oswego, NY - After a 3-0 sweep over Plattsburgh last weekend, the Lakers welcomed in the Hawks of New Paltz to try to continue the winning streak. Dropping the first game, Oswego bounced back nicely taking game two. Game three tomorrow will be for the series.
GAME 1:
BASICS
Oswego 4 (12-12, 8-2 SUNYAC)
New Paltz 7 (14-9, 5-3 SUNYAC)
Laker Baseball Field | Oswego, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring got off to a slow start as the first run of the game was scored in the sixth inning.
Brendan Mair was on third for Oswego in the bottom of the fifth but nothing came out of it. New Paltz struck first in the sixth when Louis Kaleb went deep. It was his second homer of the year and the Hawks were up 1-0.
New Paltz built on their lead in the seventh. It was Louis Kaleb again, this time with a 2 RBI double. Following the big 2-bagger by Kaleb, Matt Sarni hit an infield single that scored Kaleb. New Paltz now had a comfortable, 4-0 lead.
Oswego got some of these back in the bottom half of the seventh when Brogan Olsen came in to pinch hit in a big spot. He singled up the gut to cut New Paltz lead in half.
Oswego shut the door in the eighth and then tied it up in the bottom half.
Dylan Rosenberg and
Brendan Mair each had RBI singles and just like that Oswego erased the four run advantage.
The Hawks responded nicely in the top of the ninth as they scored three runs with only one being earned. Oswego down three, had the opportunity to come back with two runners on bottom nine. A late strikeout would ultimately end it and New Paltz prevailed to be victorious in game two.
WIN - Kiran Paingankar (2-2)
LOSS -
Matthew Drillings (1-1)
GAME 2:
BASICS
Oswego 11 (13-12, 9-2 SUNYAC)
New Paltz 7 (14-10, 5-4 SUNYAC)
Laker Baseball Field | Oswego, NY
HOW IT HAPPENED
New Paltz opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the first but Oswego responded nicely jumping on top of the Hawks scoring two runs of their own. Brogan Olsen and
Daniel Winchester were the culprits with an RBI single each. Oswego answered the call and held a one run lead after six outs.
In the third inning, New Paltz would grasp the lead back after scoring two unearned runs. But yet again, the Lakers didn't let them hold the lead for long as they had a monstrous inning. It started with good baserunning on a passed ball from
Emil Sander. The Sander run tied it up and then
Dylan Rosenberg singled to the infield, scoring
Harry Uvena. With the lead, the Lakers were still looking for more. They got more courtesy of a Thomas Harrington single that gave the Lakers two more RBI's, a four run inning and a 6-3 lead.
The Hawks were able to get some back from a Joe RIchetti 2 run shot. The Lakers held a one run lead but in the bottom of the fifth, they made that lead three.
Dylan Rosenberg cashed in on a New Paltz error which was followed by an
Emil Sander sac fly and the score now sat, 7-5.
A
Matt Carner sac fly in the bottom of the sixth would give Oswego a four run but the Hawks made it even, scoring on an Oswego error in the top of the seventh.
Oswego continued to pick up insurance in the bottom of the seventh as
Harry Uvena scored on a passed ball and
Matt Carner hit into another sacrifice fly. Oswego was sitting comfy with a 11-6 lead.
With their back against the walls, the Hawks were able to put something together in the top of the ninth. A single followed by a double would send in Tommy Poggi. The last second push wouldn't be enough though and Oswego took game two.
WIN -
Jonah Shearer (3-1)
LOSS - Linus Oudom (2-1)
