Cortland, N.Y. — The SUNY Oswego men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor season Friday at the Cortland Red Dragon Open, turning in a well-rounded day highlighted by distance success on the women's side and a series of strong efforts from the men across sprint and middle-distance events.

How It Happened
On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay team of Soren Wolford, Malik Davis, Cory Morton, and Peter Kraynak sprinted to a third-place finish with a time of 44.06 seconds. Wolford also shined individually, finishing eighth in the 100m (11.33) and sixth in the 200m (22.27), a mark that ranks him fourth all-time in program history. Tom Mahunik crossed the line eighth in the 400m with a time of 53.62, while Cory Morton placed 10th in the 110m hurdles (16.37) and ninth in the 400m hurdles (59.87). Morton also showed his versatility in the field, earning second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.78 meters. Jeffery Simmons ran to fourth in the men's 800m (1:58.13), and Nahemiah Daniel made a mark in the steeplechase with a third-place finish of 9:56.40, good enough for fifth all-time in program history. Distance runner Noah Melita earned eighth in the 5,000m (15:55.57).

The women's team had an equally impressive day. Hannah Reichard dominated middle distance, winning the 800m in a personal best 2:18.82 and placing second in the 1,500m (4:43.94), both marks qualifying her for regionals and placing her second and fourth all-time in Oswego history, respectively. Elena Gaffney posted a personal best in the 1,500m as well, finishing ninth (4:54.47). In the 5,000m, Jessica Torrey finished seventh (20:49.44), while Julia Weaver and Julay Mustafa came in ninth (23:45.48) and tenth (23:51.40), respectively.
