Oswego, NY – The Lakers hosted the first game of SUNYAC Semifinal 3 game series with the New Paltz Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
The Basics
Game 1 Final
Oswego: 7 (21-14, 14-4 SUNYAC)
New Paltz: 2 (23-14, 11-7 SUNYAC)
Location: Oswego, N.Y.
How it Happened
Stellar pitching by Lakers' starter
Mason Sands preserved an early lead that the Lakers would not relent as the Oswego State Baseball team took a 1-0 series lead over the New Paltz Hawks on SUNYAC Semi-Finals weekend.
The Lakers scored in each of the first three innings, first by
Emil Sander scoring on a passed ball, and Sander drove in a run by a Hit by Pitch in the second, in which the bases were loaded. In the third,
Brogan Olson drove in
Daniel Winchester on a single to center field, taking a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks were able to respond with a run of their own thanks to Tommy Poggi, which was an unearned run.
Dylan Rosenberg answered with a solo home run belted to left field in the sixth.
The Lakers then scored two runs in the 8th inning, with
Harry Uvena driving in a run by a bases loaded hit by pitch, the second instance of that occurring in this game. The next batter
Daniel Winchester then belted a single to score the 7th run for the Lakers.
Matthew Drillings ran into some trouble in the top of the 9th, giving up a run by a wild pitch, but closed the door on the Hawks, putting New Paltz's backs against the wall. Drillings earned the save, his tenth of the season.
Mason Sands earned the win, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing 9 hits, 1 run (unearned), walking 2 batters, and striking out 4 batters.
What's Next
The Lakers host New Paltz tomorrow, May 3rd, at 12:00 P.M. for the second game of the series. If Oswego takes it, they advance to the SUNYAC Championship series. If New Paltz wins, they will play a rubber match directly following the second game.
