Freshman center
Brendan McLaughlin scored five goals and added an assist as the Oswego State hockey team defeated Buffalo State 10-1 in SUNYAC ice hockey action on Friday at Romney Field House.
The freshman scored three of his goals at even strength, one on the power play, and one on a short-handed breakaway with a clever deke to his backhand side. That short-handed goal gave the Lakers a 6-0 lead with 5:13 remaining in the second period. Linemate Ryan Ellis had four assists on the night.
The Lakers had been 0-2 on home ice entering Friday's game. Sporting throwback jerseys for the first time this season, Oswego State gave the home crowd plenty to cheer about in the one-sided victory.
C.J. Thompson, Trevor Gilligan, John Duco, Peter Magagna, and Mike Novak also scored for the Lakers, as 14 of the 18 skaters recorded at least one point in the win. With 17 newcomers on the roster and as many as 12 in the lineup this season, the team is starting to find a comfort zone.
