The Oswego State women's basketball team moved in to the SUNY Athletic Conference semi-finals by rolling past visiting Buffalo State in the opening round of the tournament by the score of 80-61 on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Laker Hall.
Oswego State will take on either Oneonta or Fredonia in the conference semifinals set for Friday, Feb. 25, at 3 p.m. That game will be played at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
The win improved the Lakers to 23-2 on the season setting a new school record for victories in a season. It was also extended the team's winning streak to 10 games, marking the second time this season they have had a winning streak hit double digits.
Top-seeded Oswego State allowed eighth-seeded Buffalo State to take a 2-0 lead before taking charge the rest of the game. The Lakers would lead by as many as 22 points in the half and carried a 51-30 lead into the break as
Lacey Kimpland (Fulton) sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The hosts added to the lead in the second half, leading by 31 points three different occasions.
Kelly Mraz (Johnstown) led all scorers as the Laker sophomore dropped in 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting. She was also 5-for-6 from behind the 3-point arc. Kimpland added 16 points to the win with
Sarah Lombard (Saratoga Springs) chipping in with 12 points.
For Buffalo State, Darnika Moseley (Liverpool) had a huge game with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Toya Parks (Brooklyn) added 15 points for the Bengals and Jacey Brooks (Machias) finished with 12.
Buffalo State capped the season with a record of 9-17.
