Cortellini, Johnson pitch Lakers to seventh straight win

Riding the strong pitching of Mike Cortellini (Arlington) and Rob Johnson (Rochester), the Oswego State baseball team beat visiting Clarkson 3-1 on Saturday, March 26, for their seventh straight victory.

The victory puts the Lakers at 7-2 on the season, while the Golden Knights fell to 6-4.

Cortellini allowed just one run on two hits in the first four innings, while Johnson didn't allow a run in five innings of relief to earn the victory. The duo also benefited from three double plays turned by the Laker infield.

Oswego State scored all three of its runs in the opening inning as Matt Kimpland (Fulton) and Tom Farrell (Oswego) each scored on an error. The final run of the inning came when Anthony Coromato (Utica) hit a sacrifice fly to plate Dave Johnson (Rochester).

Clarkson scored its lone run in the fifth when Tom Lilienthal (Baldwinsville) scored when T.J. Brinkman (Troy) grounded into a double play.

Dan Hojnacki (Attica) took the loss for the Golden Knights despite allowing just one earned run in six innings of work.

The Lakers will be on the road on Monday, March 28, taking on Ithaca College in a single game at 3 p.m.
