Lakers open SUNYAC play with 13-1 win over Potsdam

The Oswego State women's lacrosse team opened SUNY Athletic Conference play in convincing fashion beating visiting Potsdam by the score of 13-1 on Tuesday, April 5, in Oswego.

The win puts the Lakers at 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC. Potsdam dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Oswego State took control early by scoring four times in a four-minute span as Ashley Anderson (Cortland) opened the scoring at the 25:18 mark. Nicole McHale (Kings Park) added a goal less than a minute later before Brooke Eldridge (Carthage) made it 3-0 with 21:55 remaining in the opening half. Kathryn Carbonaro (Auburn) closed out the flurry with an unassisted goal 17 seconds later.
McHale netted the only other goal in the first half scoring with 2:16 left sending the hosts into the half with a 5-0 advantage.

In the second half, Oswego State scored the first three goals before the Bears got onto the board on a goal by Rebecca Kelley (Heuvelton).

The Lakers closed out the game scoring the final five goals.

McHale led the hosts with three goals and one assists with Anderson also netting the hat trick.

Carbonaro contributed with a pair of goals.

Keeper Lauren Burrows (Kirkville) made five saves to pick up the win for Oswego State.

For Potsdam, Laura Mooney (Syracuse) registered 14 saves.

The Lakers will be back on the field on Tuesday, April 12, heading to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles in a 4 p.m. start.
