The Oswego State baseball team earned a split with SUNY Athletic Conference opponent SUNY Brockport in exciting fashion as Tom Farrell (Oswego) singled in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth as the Lakers posted a 10-9 win.
The Golden Eagles opened the doubleheader with 7-2 win as the games were played on Saturday, April 9, at the South Athletic Complex.
Oswego State is now 7-6 on the season and 1-3 in conference play, while Brockport is 11-7 and 2-2 in the SUNYAC.
In the Laker win, Farrell capped a rally that saw the hosts score twice in the bottom half of the inning. Oswego State tied the game on a double by Nick Perioli (Liverpool) as Chris Raudnael (Poughkeepsie) crossed the plate. Later in the inning with two outs, Brockport intentionally walked Matt Kimpland (Fulton) to load the bases loaded and Farrell followed with a sharp single to left center as Rob Burke (Rochester) scored.
Adam Harendza (Johnson City) earned the win in relief for Oswego State.
Raudnael finished with four hits for the Lakers with Farrell, Dave Johnson (North Chili) and Burke each collecting three hits.
Ryan Mohr (Cheektowaga) finished with three hits for the Golden Eagles and drove in four runs.
In the opener, Brockport broke open a 1-1 game in the final two innings scoring three runs in each of those innings. Rob Maxwell (Amherst) went seven innings and allowed only one unearned run to collect the victory.
Freshman Rob Johnson (North Chili) turned in a solid effort on the mound for Oswego State as he went 7-1/3 innings giving up two earned runs with six strikeouts.
Anthony Coromato (Utica) had a pair of hits for the Lakers, while John Morgan (Hilton) and Sean Davis (Brockport) each had a pair of hits for the Golden Eagles.
