Lakers open Campus Center Ice Arena with win over Utica

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team opened up the new Campus Center Ice Arena with a 4-3 win over Utica on Friday night in Oswego.

Junior assistant captain C.J. Thompson had two goals and and assist for Oswego State, and sophomore Brendan McLaughlin scored the game-winning goal and assisted on two others.

The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of the game in front of a packed house of 2,980. Utica scored two goals late in the first period to get back into the contest.

McLaughlin's second period goal stood up, and Joe Watson scored in the third period for the Pioneers, but it was not enough.

Oswego State goalie Ryan Scott made 27 saves and stopped three breakaways in the game.

The Lakers, ranked seventh nationally by USCHO.com, are now 2-0-0 on the season. Utica lost its opener. Oswego State returns to action on Friday at Elmira, and then hosts the Soaring Eagles on Saturday at 7 p.m.
