The Oswego State women's lacrosse team lost 10-8 to Hartwick on Saturday afternoon at Liverpool High School. It was the first game of the year for both teams.
Hartwick's Kelsey Campbell had five goals to lead the Hawks to the victory. Jamie Boulton and Jenev Schilling each scored two goals for the winners. Oswego State's offense was led by Tricia McNeilly with three goals and an assist.
Oswego State scored the first three goals of the game within the first 10 minutes of play. Alisha Sarubbi, Michelle Mendell, and Jessica Maltese accounted for those tallies. The Hawks battled back to even the score at 5-5 at halftime.
Ashley Anderson scored with 20:28 left to play in the second half, giving Oswego State a 6-5 lead. It was the last lead the Lakers held as Hartwick scored the next four goals, capped by Campbell's fourth of the game with 6:05 remaining.
Two quick goals from McNeilly brought the Lakers back to within one, but Campbell's fifth goal of the game clinched the win for Hartwick.
Hawks goaltender Amanda Gerich made nine saves and Lauren Burrows had seven saves for the Lakers.
Oswego State outshot Hartwick 23-20, had a 13-7 advantage in draw controls, and a 30-26 advantage in ground balls.
