Fredonia sweeps Lakers in doubleheader

The Oswego State baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Monday afternoon against Fredonia. The Blue Devils outscored the Lakers 11-9 in the first game and won the second game 10-4 at Laker Field in Oswego.

Fredonia 11, Oswego State 9

Oswego State scored four times in the bottom of the ninth inning but the rally fell short in the opener. Anthony Coromato had three hits for Oswego State, including a two-run homer in the ninth inning. Nick Perioli also had three hits for the Lakers. Anthony Bloomfield suffered the loss in relief of starter Matt Mullin.

Jim Kunkemoeller was 4-for-5 for the Blue Devils with two homers, five RBIs, and three runs scored. Bryan Recchia also homered for Fredonia in support of Craig Heath, the winning pitcher, who threw seven innings and allowed five runs.

The teams combined to score 13 runs over the last three innings after the score was 4-3 in Fredonia's favor after six innings were complete.

Fredonia 10, Oswego State 4

The Lakers hit into three double plays and left 11 runners on base in the second game. Anthony Coromato and Zack Owen had two hits each to lead the Lakers. One of Coromato's hits was his second home run of the day, a towering shot over the right-field fence. Adam Harendza started and took the loss on the mound.

Fredonia's Tom Hausler was the winning pitcher and Mike Austin and Jim Kunkemoeller had three hits each. Fredonia is 9-18 overall and 4-6 in the SUNYAC.

Oswego State fell to 10-14 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC. The Lakers play a non-league game against Clarkson on Friday at 4 p.m. in Watertown.
