Pople's goal on senior day earns tie for Oswego State

Senior Ashley Pople scored a second-half goal that knotted the score and the Oswego State women's soccer team tied Scranton 1-1 on Saturday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego.

The Lakers finished their season with a 6-10-2 record and Scranton is 7-9-2 on the season.

The visiting Royals took the lead in the first half as Caroline Corasaniti took a pass from Kaitlin Baker right in front of the net and scored from close range in the 11th minute.

Pople's goal, with came in the 66th minute, was off a set piece. Laker defender Brooke Sherman lofted a ball into the box and Pople ran onto it and redirected a shot into the right side of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

The best chance to score in overtime came from the Royals, as Mary Beth Vogel headed a ball over the net on a corner kick.

Laker goalkeeper Toby Klein had nine saves and Scranton's Jackie Colley had one.

Oswego State seniors Morgan Vrydaghs, Jena Skivington, Mary Spuhler, Kim Mayer, and Ashley Pople were recognized at halftime, as Saturday's game was their final contest as a member of the Oswego State Lakers.
