Four-point night for Magagna leads Oswego State to SUNYAC victory

Peter Magagna had two goals and two assists in Oswego State's 6-1 win over Cortland in men's ice hockey on Friday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego. The win was Oswego State's fourth in a row, and the Lakers are now 4-2-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the SUNYAC. Cortland fell to 2-6-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the conference.

The Lakers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first periodas Kyle McCutcheon opened the scoring halfway through the period, it was his first goal of the season. Ryan Ellis added his fourth goal of the year late in the first on assists from Magagna and Tyler Lyon.

Ellis scored his second of the game 5:48 into the second period to stake Oswego State to a 3-0 lead. Cortland responded with its only goal of the contest, a power-play goal from Zach Dehm, assisted by Frank Rizzo and Brent Fallon.

The Lakers scored the last three goals of the game, and all of them came on the power play. Magagna scored twice and C.J. Thompson had the other goal. Oswego State was 3-for-9 on the power play in the game.

Freshman Chris Laganiere had two assists in the game, as did Neil Musslwhite.

Laker goalie Ryan Scott made 13 saves and earned the win. Cortland's Mike Mistretta had 37 saves in the loss.

Oswego State is back on home ice Saturday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game against Hobart College. The visiting Statesmen come into the contest with a perfect 6-0-0 record and are currently ranked ninth in the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll. The Lakers are 10th in the national poll.
