Pecora's walk-off HR gives Lakers dramatic doubleheader sweep

Oswego State catcher Dan Pecora homered over the left-field fence with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Lakers a 2-1 win over Brockport and a doubleheader sweep over the Golden Eagles on Monday afternoon at Laker Field.

It was the second time in the afternoon doubleheader that the Lakers won a game in their final at bat, as Oswego State scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 11-10 in the first game of the twin bill.

Pecora's blast ended a tight pitcher's duel between Brockport's Jason Shannon and three Oswego State pitchers, each of whom allowed just one hit. Justin Storie started and lasted an inning and a third, he was charged with the lone Brockport run, which was unearned. Chris Loperfido relieved Storie and winning pitcher Adam Harendza pitched the last three and two-thirds innings to get the win. Harendza struggled in the first game of the day, but was very strong in game two with four strikeouts.

The Lakers first run of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning, and was unearned as the Golden Eagles committed a pair of errors in the inning.

Game 1

The Oswego State baseball team scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to stun Brockport 11-10 on Monday afternoon at Laker Field.

The Golden Eagles led 10-2, but Oswego State scored nine runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to get the victory. The Laker rally started with three singles and two walks, followed by a two-run single from Tom Grace. An RBI double by K.C. Reardon then scored Nick Marzullo.

The rally continued until Dan Pecora scored the game-tying run on a wild pitch, which led to Laker senior Tom Farrell being intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs. Nick Marzullo singled to right field and Nick Perioli scored the game-winning run from third to complete the big rally.

Brett Shaffer, Nick Marzullo, Steve Guckemus, and Nick Perioli all had two hits for the Lakers in the win.

Brockport scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to turn a 3-2 lead into a 10-2 advantage, and seemingly put the game out of reach before Oswego State's huge rally. The Golden Eagles had seven hits in the game, led by Jamie Rose with two hits. Anthony Shallo had five RBIs.

Oswego State's Justin Storie earned the win in relief and Matt Biviano took the loss for the Golden Eagles.
