The Oswego State baseball team rallied back from a 5-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader and shut out New Paltz 6-0 in the second game of a SUNYAC doubleheader at Laker Field on Saturday afternoon.
Oswego State is now 10-7 on the year while New Paltz is 13-15. Both teams have a 5-5 record in conference games. The Lakers host Oneonta on Sunday at noon for another doubleheader.
New Paltz 5, Oswego State 1
The Lakers took an early 1-0 lead in the opener on an RBI sacrifice fly by Nick Perioli that brought home Mike Lucatra, but were shut down the rest of the way by New Paltz pitcher Zachary Potter who got the complete-game victory. He struck out 11 batters and allowed just three hits in the win.
The Hawks tied the score with a run in the third and added two runs each in the seventh and ninth innings. John DeKams had an RBI double and Alex Cadums had three hits in the victory.
Nate DeSantis took the loss on the mound for the Lakers.
Oswego State 6, New Paltz 0
The Lakers broke through with three runs in the top of the first and that was all they needed behind a masterful pitching performance from Adam Harendza in a victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Harendza struck out 11 Hawks in seven innings, allowing just two hits in a complete game shutout.
Oswego State had five hits in the first inning, including a two-run double from Tom Farrell and an RBI single from Nick Marzullo to build a lead. Oswego State added three more runs in the third inning. Brett Shaffer, Dan Pecora, and Steve Guckemus each had two hits in the win.
Jim Donohue took the loss on the mound for the Hawks.
