The Oswego State women's lacrosse team lost 8-6 to Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon at Laker Field in Oswego.
Meghan Dooney scored her second goal of the game with 5:39 remaining to pull Oswego State within one goal as the Lakers trailed 7-6. The Bengals controlled possession by picking up the ensuing draw and held possession for the final five and a half minutes of the game. Katie Lyons scored at the final buzzer to account for the 8-6 final.
Shantel Ackley had four goals for the Bengals, including the first three of the game as Buffalo State built a 3-0 lead. Leah Bernal, Steph Georgopolous, Katie Henderson, and Katie Lyons also scored. Molly Seifritz had two assists and Bernal assisted on the final goal of the game. Goalie Tara Ammerman made six saves in the game.
Oswego State's Jessica Maltese also had two goals in the contest, and Rachel Ventresca and Nicole McHale also scored. Shannon O'Brien had seven saves for the Lakers.
The Lakers are now 5-8 overall and 2-5 in the SUNYAC, and the Bengals are 10-3 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Oswego State plays at St. John Fisher on Tuesday.
Oswego State seniors Kelly Bootier, Meghan Dooney, Tara Dutcher, Meredith Lerch, Jessica Maltese, Nicole McHale, and Tricia McNeilly were honored prior to the start of the game.
