Lakers eliminated in second day of ECAC Upstate Tournament

The Oswego State baseball team lost twice on Saturday and was eliminated from the ECAC Upstate Tournament. The Lakers lost to St. John Fisher 12-4, and then lost an elimination game against Oneonta by the score of 6-3. The Lakers finished their season with a 15-14 record.

The Lakers took the lead with a run in the top of the second inning, but Fisher answered with three runs in the bottom half and added single runs in the third and fourth innings. They extended the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Steve Guckemus had an RBI double to get Oswego State on the scoreboard. He added an RBI hit in the sixth inning. The Lakers scored twice in the ninth inning. Justin Horbal started and lasted two innings, taking the loss.

The Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but eventually lost to the top-seeded Red Dragons and were eliminated from the tournament. It was Oneonta's first win against the Lakers in four meetings this year.

Guckemus had a two-run homer in the top of the second to put the Lakers in front, and Nick Marzullo had an RBI single with two outs in the fourth.

Oneonta turned the game around with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and added two more in the seventh to establish the final margin.

Laker starting pitcher Adam Harendza went the distance and took the loss, despite striking out 15 batters.
