Lakers lose neutral site game at Ithaca

The Oswego State baseball team lost 12-6 to Ithaca on Wednesday night at Falcon Park in Auburn.

The Bombers scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to turn a 4-3 deficit into an 11-4 lead and went on to the victory. It was the 800th win in the coaching career of George Valesente at Ithaca.

Ithaca opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff single by Eric Ferguson, another single by Jason Friedman and a sac fly RBI by Todd Czerno.

The Lakers took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. Mike Lucatra singled and scored on an outfield error. Steve Guckemus and Mike Levy also had RBI singles in the fourth.

The Bombers tied the game in the bottom half with two runs on a two-run single by Friedman. The Lakers got out of further trouble by turning a double play.

After Oswego State went ahead 4-3 in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by NIck Marzullo, the Bombers' bats came to life in the fifth and sixth innings.

Ithaca had three hits and took advantage of a pair of Laker errors in the fifth, and had four hits in the sixth-inning rally keyed by a two-run single by Jason Friedman.

Oswego State's Steve Guckemus and Mike Levy had two hits each.

Eric Ferguson had four hits for Ithaca and Friedman and Jeremy Peters had three hits each.

Justin White started and took the loss for the Lakers. Shane Wolf earned the win for the Bombers.

Ithaca is now 22-9 on the season and Oswego State fell to 14-11. The Lakers will play Monday at Clarkson at 3 p.m. in a single, nine-inning game.
