Senior defenseman
Mark Lozzi (Richmondhill, ONT) scored a pair of goals and added an assist in leading sixth ranked Oswego State to its third straight win with a 6-4 triumph over third ranked Elmira College at the Campus Center Ice Arena at SUNY Oswego. Both goals from Lozzi came after the Soaring Eagles pulled to within a goal, 4-3, midway through the third period, coming back-to-back in a 2:20 span.
His first came at 13:41 off a pass from junior Neil Musselwhite (Burlington, ONT), followed by a short-handed goal a minute into a tripping penalty by Oswego senior Ryan Ellis at 15:34.
Musselwhite and junior forward Derrell Levy (Markham, ONT) each tallied a goal and an assist, with Levy's goal coming short-handed at 9:54 into the opening period, while junior defenseman Tyler Lyon (Foxboro, ONT) and sophomore forward Josh Chamberlain (Belleville, Ont.) each registered a goal. Sophomore Chris Laganiere (Owego, NY) finished with two assists.
Four different players tallied goals for Elmira (2-2-0), with senior forward Jan Velich (Pardubice, Czech Republic) registering a goal and two assists. Junior Rusty Masters tallied a goal in the second period, while freshman Darcy Vaillancourt (Bonfield, ONT) and Brendan Sanders (Mississauga, ONT) posted scores in the third period.
Both teams were even through the first two periods (1-1 after period one, 2-2 after two periods) before the Lakers (3-1-0) got goals from Lyon at 5:36 and Chamberlain at 8:31 to take a 4-2 lead. Elmira (2-2-0) pulled to within a goal when Vaillancourt scored an even strength goal from a pass from Velich at 10:16, before Lozzi scored twice to put the game out of reach. The Soaring Eagles tallied the game's final score on a power-play goal from Sanders off assists from Velich and Greg Moore (Chateauguay, QUE) at 16:41.
Oswego freshman Paul Beckwith (Cleveland, OH), making only his second start in goal, made 24 saves in picking up the win, while Elmira junior Casey Tuttle (Chelsea, ME) stopped 22 shots in the loss.
