Brockport sweeps Oswego State in SUNYAC finale

The Oswego State baseball team wrapped up the SUNY Athletic Conference portion of its schedule on Sunday with a doubleheader at Brockport, and lost both games. The host Golden Eagles won the first nine-inning game 11-1 and the second seven-inning game 7-6.

Oswego State is now 14-11 overall and finished at 6-8 in the SUNYAC, just outside of the playoffs. Brockport is 21-15-1 overall and 7-7 in the conference, moving into fourth place ahead of Oswego State with the sweep.

The Lakers will play a non-league game on Monday night against Ithaca College at Falcon Park in Auburn. The game begins at 8 p.m.

The Lakers took the lead early on with a run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single from Josh Stoetzel that brought in Dan Pecora. Brockport answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and added two in the fifth and six in the bottom of the seventh.

Brandon Wroblewski was 2-for-3 at the plate and Tom Benedetto and K.C. Reardon also hit safely in addition to Stoetzel and Pecora.

Dave Widrick started for Oswego State and took the loss. Five Brockport players had two hits each, and the Lakers committed five errors in the game.

Brockport 7, Oswego State 6 BOX SCORE

The Golden Eagles scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for the win in the second game. Each team scored in the first inning, and Brockport went ahead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.

Oswego State came back with three in the top of the fourth to take the lead. The inning included an RBI single by Wes O'Connor and a two-run single up the middle with two outs by Brandon Wroblewski that put the Lakers in front 4-3. Bryan Stark came through in the top of the sixth with a two-run single that put the Lakers ahead 6-3.

Brockport scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead. The rally included three hits, two walks, and a batter hit by a pitch. Two runners reached for Oswego State in the top of the seventh, but Brockport's Steve Locke recorded the final out to earn the win. He had relieved starter Tim Mascari in the sixth.

Oswego State's Dustin Lefave took the loss for the Lakers. Andy Salvatore started the game and P.J. Cowie and Dan Pecora also saw action on the mound for Oswego State.
