Kayla Ryan (Schaghicoke/Hoosic Valley) scored a game-high 18 points, but Oswego State could not stop a hot shooting Cortland State in route to suffering their fifth straight loss and first in SUNYAC play, dropping an 82-51 decision to the host Red Dragons on Saturday, January 10.
Ryan was the lone player in double digits for the Lakers (4-7 overall, 2-1 SUNYAC), connecting on seven of 15 shots from the floor and making all four free-throw attempts. Sophomore Erin Ostrander (Angelica/Genesee Valley) finished with nine points off of the bench, with all of her points coming from the three-point line. Junior Rachel Kohrs (New Lebanon) and senior Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) each finished with six points and a steal, while junior Tricia Sullivan (Copenhagen) led the team in rebounds six.
Oswego shot 33.9 percent (19-for-56) from the floor, while Cortland (9-2 overall, 4-0 SUNYAC) shot 46.9 percent (30-for-64) from the field and 80 percent (16-for-20) from the foul line. The Red Dragons never trailed throughout the contest, holding a 41-23 advantage at halftime. Jennifer Patten was one of three players scoring in double digits for Cortland with 14 points, hitting five of eight shots on the floor and making all four foul shots. Jessica Laing and Michelle Volpini followed with 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Liang pulling down a game-high nine rebounds.
Oswego returns home on Tuesday, Jan. 13 for a 6 p.m. conference showdown with Plattsburgh State.
