Lakers post third straight win with 15-13 come-from-behind triumph over Clarkson

Oswego State overcame a two-goal deficit midway through the second half with four straight goals, with freshman Rachel Raffa (Plainview/Kings Park) scoring twice in the run, including the game-winner, en route to their third consecutive victory with a 15-13 triumph over Clarkson University in their final non-conference contest before beginning SUNYAC play on Tuesday, March 31.

Raffa finished with a game-high seven points on four goals, three coming in the second half, and three assist. Senior Colleen Ventresca (Syracuse/Henninger) also tallied four goals and handed out a pair of assists, while sophomore Bri Borrow (Oswego) and senior Colleen Ventura (LaFayette) scored two goals apiece.

Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Nalle (Oswego) registered her first complete-game win of the season with 13 saves.

The Lakers held a 7-6 halftime lead and stretched the lead to 9-6 in the opening three minutes of the second half after back-to-back goals from Raffa (42 seconds) and Borrow (3:00) before the Golden Knights ran off three straight scores to tie the game at 9-9 at the 5:51 mark.  A free-position shot from Venture gave Oswego a one-goal lead, but Clarkson went on a 5-1 run over a 5:40 stretch, with senior Emily Bojarski scoring three of her game-high six goal in the run, to take a 13-11 advantage with 13:13 to play.

Raffa and Ventresca each scored unassisted goals to tie the score at 13-13 at the 18:05 mark of the period before Raffa added the game winner 2:47 later off a pass from senior Shannon Brown (Amherst), who finished with three assists.  Junior Jessixa Zenzel (Johnson City) finished the scoring with a free-position goal at 22-29.

The Lakers will open conference play with a 4 p.m. home matchup with Fredonia State on Thursday, April 2 at Laker Field.
