For the second time in three days, the Oswego State women's lacrosse team built up a double-digit lead early in the second half, only to see it shrink to single digits as the defense fought off a 10-1 run by Elmira College in the game's final 18 minutes to hold on to a 15-13 victory in non-conference action on Thursday, April 16 in Elmira.
Oswego (7-5), who extended its win streak to three games, held a 5-3 lead with 10:25 to play in the first half before finishing the half with five straight goals to take a 10-3 halftime lead, then opened the second half with four consecutive goals in the opening 9:40 to take a commanding 14-3 lead, forcing a continuing running game clock.
The Soaring Eagles (2-10) started their run with five unanswered goals to cut Oswego's lead to 14-8 with 9:12 left in the game. After the Lakers scored a goal a player down after a yellow card, Elmira went on another 5-0 run, with three scores coming on the extra-player advantage, to pull to within two scores. Elmira won the draw control after the score, but the Lakers got the ground ball seconds later to run out the clock.
