The Oswego State women's lacrosse team could not hold on to defeat Clarkson despite a strong offensive performance on Tuesday. The Lakers fell 20-15 to the Golden Knights on their home turf in Potsdam. The loss dropped Oswego State to 1-3 on the season, while Clarkson improved to 5-1.
Both teams came out with an offensive mindset and traded goals for much of the first half. Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the game for the Lakers just two minutes into the stanza, but the Golden Knights retaliated right away to even the score.
The first five minutes of the period remained quick in pace as the two teams combined for seven goals. Clarkson, however, scored three consecutive goals in the stint to take a 5-2 lead. The three-point lead proved to be the largest margin either team would hold until the end of the contest. Oswego State rallied to even the score at 7-7 heading into the second period behind Rachel Raffa (So., Kings Park, N.Y.), who scored two of her four goals in the first half. She also added two assists.
Neither team let up on the offensive attack in the second frame. After a penalty call on Clarkson, Oswego State netted three straight goals to take a marginal 13-12 lead. With nearly 16 minutes remaining in the contest, the Lakers lost momentum and were outscored 8-2 by the Golden Knights, who controlled the remainder of the period to solidify the 20-15 victory. Kimberly Loucks led all scorers with seven goals on just nine shots and Saryn Campbell contributed six goals and two assists for the Golden Knights.
It was an all-around team effort for Oswego State, which had goal contributions from five different players on 10 assists. Raffa led the Lakers with six points on four goals and two assists. Darcy also added four goals, while Bri Borrow (Jr., Oswego, N.Y) netted two.
Oswego State must bounce back quickly and prepare for its next contest against Wells College at home tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
