Oswego State senior pitcher Andy Salvatore (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) threw a complete-game shutout in the nightcap of a doubleheader to give the Lakers a 2-0 win for a series split against Fredonia on Saturday in Oswego. Both games were pitchers' duels as the Blue Devils scored in the top of the ninth to win game one 2-1. Oswego State moved to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in league play, while Fredonia moved to 11-5 and 1-2 in the SUNYAC.

The Lakers took advantage of a lead-off walk at the start of the first game as Dan Slate (Sr., Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) eventually scored following a wild pitch.  Neither team was able to get a run across home plate until the seventh inning when Fredonia's Erik Pokornowski hit a two-out double followed by a RBI-single from Joe Kephart to tie the game at 1-1.

Taylor Gahagen started the ninth with a walk for the Blue Devils.  The next two batters moved Gahagen over to third when Jon Messina delivered a single to score the go-ahead run.  Oswego State went down in order in its last at-bat for the 2-1 loss.

Both squads struggled to move runners as the Lakers stranded 10, while Fredonia left nine runners on base.  Oswego State's Brady Farkas (So., Clifton Park, N.Y.) gave up five hits over the course of eight innings allowing one run, while walking three and striking out three.  Jon Stevens (Fr., Chittenango, N.Y.) suffered the loss after coming in for the ninth inning giving up one hit, one walk and one run.  Andy Dlugosz earned the win in relief for the Blue Devils as both starting pitchers combined to strike out 14 Lakers.

Game two was scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when a lead-off walk issued to Brooks Beatty (Jr., Atwater, Calif.).  Matt Deveney (Sr., North Syracuse, N.Y.) moved Beatty over to second with a sacrifice bunt before Kane Share (So., Brockport, N.Y.) drove in the contest's first run.  Oswego State added an insurance run in the seventh when Bryan Stark (Sr., Rochester, N.Y.) drew another walk with one out.  Share produced another base hit to put runners on first and second.  Slate laid down a bunt in the next at-bat, but the Fredonia pitcher was unable to make the play resulting in Stark coming around to score on the error.

Two runs was more than enough support for Andy Salvatore, who scattered eight hits in nine innings.  He walked two and struck four, but also received some help from his defense as the Lakers turned two double plays.  Fredonia's Caleb Brown suffered the loss.

Oswego State will travel to Brockport on Sunday for a SUNYAC doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
