The Oswego State women's lacrosse team set a new single-game scoring record with 28 goals and 45 points in a 28-3 victory over visiting Cazenovia on Tuesday afternoon at Laker Field. Fifteen different Lakers tallied goals with senior attack
Marisa Audley (Liverpool, N.Y.) leading the way with five goals to go along with one assist. Oswego State moved over the .500 mark with the win at 5-4 overall, while the Wildcats saw a four-game winning streak come to an end to drop to 6-6.
The Lakers raced out to a 10-0 lead midway through the first half as Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.), Maria Martusewicz (Jr., Redwood, N.Y.), and Audley combined to score seven of the first ten goals. Courtney Caldwell stopped the streak with 11:53 on the clock after receiving a pass from Ashley Rasberry. However, that did not slow down Oswego State as it took a 16-1 lead into halftime.
Head coach Brandi Ostrander's squad did not let up in the second half netting three goals in the first seven minutes as Oswego State cruised to the 28-3 win. Bri Borrow (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) and Jessica Zenzel (Sr., Johnson City, N.Y.) followed Audley in the points column with five, as Borrow posted two goals and three assists, while Zenzel contributed one goal and four assists. Darcy and Martusewicz finished the contests with three scores each along with Amanda Hecox (Jr., New Hartford, N.Y.). Two-goal scorers included Erin Cummings (So., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) and Kelly Collins (So., Fairport, N.Y.). In goal, Ashlee Engel (Fr., Webster, N.Y.) recorded ten saves on the day.
The Lakers' 28-goal output bettered the previous mark of 26 goals scored against Morrisville on March 29, 2007, which was also when Oswego State established the old mark for points in a game at 42.
The Lakers will host a pair of SUNYAC games this upcoming weekend starting with Brockport on Friday at 4 p.m. followed by Geneseo on Saturday at 1 p.m.
