The Oswego State women's lacrosse team could not extend its three-game winning streak and fell to Brockport 21-8 at Laker Field on Friday. It was just the second conference game for the Lakers, who have lost both at home. The loss dropped the Lakers to 5-5 on the season and 0-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Golden Eagles improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Oswego State's red-hot offensive run finally came to an end as the Lakers could not gain any rhythm.  Brockport jumped to an early 3-0 lead and never let up.  Jessica Zenzel (Sr., Johnson City, N.Y.) netted a goal for Oswego State to bring the score to 3-1, but a 5-0 run by the Golden Eagles cemented their lead for the remainder of the contest.  The Lakers were also hurt by 12 turnovers in the first half and headed into intermission down 9-3.

Despite the deficit, the Lakers started the second half with intensity.  Marisa Audley (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.) scored just 20 seconds into the half to bring Oswego State to within five.  Despite having five different players score, the Lakers could not close the gap.  Audley, Marisa Martusewicz (Jr., Redwood, N.Y.) and Bri Borrow (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) all contributed two goals apiece for Oswego State, while Erin Cummings (So., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) had the only assist.

It would not be enough for the Lakers, however, as they could not keep the momentum going.  Brockport went on to score seven consecutive goals in route to its 21-8 victory.  Sarah Brown and Melissa Hill led the way for the Golden Eagles with four goals apiece.

Oswego State will have to rebound quickly and prepare to host another conference game on Saturday against Geneseo at 1 p.m.
