A strong first half performance propelled the Oswego State women's lacrosse team to a 17-14 victory against visiting Elmira College on Monday. The Lakers had seven different players score with Erin Cummings (So., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) leading the way with four goals followed by Jessica Zenzel (Sr., Johnson City, N.Y.), who added three goals and three assists. The win moved Oswego State back to .500 and is 6-6 on season, while Elmira dropped to 6-10 overall.

Both teams played evenly for the start of the first half.  The Soaring Eagles jumped to the early 1-0 lead, but the Lakers quickly retaliated.  The teams exchanged goals for about ten minutes before Oswego State began to pull away.

A 4-0 run by the Lakers put them up 10-4 with five minutes remaining, but Elmira would not back down.  The Soaring Eagles retaliated with two goals of their own and narrowed the gap to four.  Oswego State kept the offensive attack coming, however, as Audley netted a goal to send the Lakers into intermission with an 11-6 advantage.

Oswego State picked up where it left off in the second half and went on a 4-1 run for a comfortable 15-7 lead.  The tempo slowed down after that point, however, and Elmira went on a run to come within four goals with over five minutes remaining in the contest.  Despite outscoring the Lakers 8-6 in the second half, Elmira could not find a way to close gap as the Lakers held on for the victory.

In addition to the scoring from Cummings and Zenzel, Maria Martusewicz (Jr., Redwood, N.Y.), Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.), Marisa Audley (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.), Andrea Musso (Sr., Auburn, N.Y.) and Stephanie Cronk (Fr., Endwell, N.Y.) contributed two goals apiece.

Oswego State will begin a four-game conference road trip Tuesday as it heads to Potsdam at 4:00.
