Fredonia went on a decisive 9-1 run midway through the first half to hand the Oswego State women's lacrosse team a 16-9 loss in Fredonia on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Devil attack was led by Maddison Frink, who finished with five goals and one assist, while Morgan McNamara and Valerie Snider added three goals each. The Lakers, who fell to 6-9 overall and 0-6 in the league, were paced by
Bri Borrow (Jr., Oswego, N.Y.) with three goals. Fredonia improved to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in SUNYAC play.
The Blue Devils held a two-goal lead when Erin Cummings (So., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) received a pass from Jessica Zenzel (Sr., Johnson City, N.Y.) to cut the deficit midway through the first half. On the ensuing draw control, Fredonia gained possession and marched down the field for the goal. Oswego State answered back with a goal from Amanda Hecox (Jr., New Hartford, N.Y.) to trail 3-2. However, the Blue Devils went on their scoring stretch to take a 12-3 lead into halftime as the Lakers received their third goal from Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.).
Head Coach Brandi Ostrander's squad started the second half with increased intensity as Borrow, Darcy, and Marisa Audley (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.) combined to score five goals in the first 6:15 to get back into the contest, trailing 12-8. Fredonia ended the comeback bid, though, by recording the next three goals for a 15-8 with 14:41 to play. Borrow tallied her third goal of the contest at the 23:18 mark with Zenzel earning the assist, but the Blue Devils again had an answer as Frink posted the game's final goal.
Oswego State will next face Oneonta on Friday, April 30 at 4 p.m. before wrapping up the season at home on Saturday, May 1 against New Paltz at 1 p.m.
