Oneonta scored ten unanswered goals in the first half to put the Oswego State women's lacrosse team down early en route to a 19-5 loss on Friday afternoon in Oneonta. Four different Red Dragons players recorded three goals or more in the win, while
Maria Martusewicz (Jr., Redwood, N.Y.) paced the Laker attack with three goals. The Lakers, who are 6-10 overall and 0-7 in the SUNYAC, wrap up the 2010 season on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Oswego when they host New Paltz. Oneonta moved to 9-5 overall and 3-4 in the league with the win.
Kristen Darcy (So., East Syracuse, N.Y.) gave Oswego State a quick 1-0 lead when she scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game. However, the Red Dragons went on to score ten straight goals in a 16-minute span before a free position goal by Martusewicz stopped the scoring string. Oneonta tallied three more goals prior to halftime for a 13-2 lead.
The Red Dragons pushed the score to 17-2 when Marisa Audley (Sr., Liverpool, N.Y.) posted her 45th goal of the season with 16:29 remaining in the contest. Both squads scored two goals each before the end of the game with both Laker scores coming from free position shots by Martusewicz. Oneonta's Somer Shuffield and Caroline Tulley finished with four goals each, while Rosemarie Fazio and Rebecca Monteith contributed three goals apiece. Nicole Nalle (So., Oswego, N.Y.) and Lauren Marois (Fr., Clifton Park, N.Y.) combined to make 14 saves, as Oswego State was out-shot 39-18.
