The Oswego State men's lacrosse team was able to get its first win of the season with a 7-4 victory against Hood College Friday afternoon in Frederick, Maryland. Laker goalie Ian O'Brien had a brilliant day between the pipes, with 17 saves on 21 shots for the well-deserved win. The Lakers improved to 1-3, while the Blazers dropped to 3-3.
Hood jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period until Oswego State's
Pat Decker tallied the first Laker goal with 12:50 left in the second quarter. Oswego State added two more goals in the period, courtesy of
Mark Briggs and
Chris Porten, while the defense tightened up not allowing a Blazer goal in the quarter as the two squads went into halftime tied up at 3-3.
At the start of the third quarter, the Laker offense did not let up and the defense stiffened up further. Oswego State rallied off four more goals and the Laker defense would allow only one goal in the second half. Leading the way for the offense was
Chris Porten with two goals with
Andy Lever chipping in two assists. For the Blazers, Corey Roberts paced the offense with his ninth and tenth tallies of the year.
Hood goalie John Martin stopped 14 shots and was stamped with the loss.
Oswego State looks for its second win in a row when it travels to Penn Yan Academy to take on Keuka on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
