Twelve different players scored to create a balanced offensive attack for the Oswego State women's lacrosse team in a 16-6 win over Cazenovia College at Chittenango High School. With the score tied at 1-1 in the first half, the Lakers rattled off six straight goals to distance themselves from the Wildcats. Oswego State, which improved to 3-3 with the victory, hosts Potsdam next Tuesday at South Athletic Field for a 4 p.m. contest. Cazenovia fell to 3-4 on the season.
Courtney Cosentino started the scoring 28 seconds into the game for the Lakers, but the Wildcats' Nicole Kimmel leveled the match less than two minutes later. Thirty-seven seconds passed before Oswego State took the lead for good when
Kelly Collins found Cosentino for her second goal of the game. The Lakers tallied the next five goals with markers by Collins,
Danielle Citro,
Rachael Raffa,
Erin Cummings, and
Stephanie Cronk to go ahead 7-1 midway through the first half.
Cazenovia stopped the scoring stretch with a goal by Christy Foster, but Oswego State posted three goals by Cummings,
Amanda Hecox, and
Kaila Curatalo in a two-minute span en route to a 10-3 halftime lead following another Wildcat score.
Both squads traded goals by
Liz Conrad and Foster at the start of the second half until
Bri Borrow's goal at 4:19 in the stanza gave the Lakers no less than an eight-goal lead. Cummings tacked on her third score of the contest, while
Kristen Darcy registered two goals and
Corinne Marsh tallied a late goal for Oswego State. The Wildcats also posted two more goals throughout the second half.
The Laker defense limited Cazenovia to 15 total shots, as
Ashlee Engel stopped six shots for the win. Christine Marra recorded eight saves in the losing effort.
