MIDDLETON, Conn. - Oswego State won three of the four wrestling matches decided by four points or less, but it was not enough to earn a victory at Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers grabbed the 22-15 win.
The Panthers had one technical fall and used a pair of major decisions to create the difference in the match.
After falling behind 4-0 with a 12-2 loss at 174 pounds, Oswego State got on the board with a 3-1 win by
Cameron Mills (Sr., Fulton, N.Y.) at 184 pounds.
The Panthers added to their lead with a technical fall, but
Kyle Sheridan (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) tightened the team score with a 5-1 win at heavyweight.
Oswego State picked up a forfeit at 125 pounds, putting them in front, 12-9, on the scoreboard. However, Wesleyan came back with a 10-3 win at 133 pounds to tie the match at 12.
The Lakers led once again following a 6-5 win by
Brad Mayville (Fr., Ontario, N.Y.) at 141 pounds, but momentum shifted in Wesleyan's favor.
Wesleyan, who sits just outside the national top 25, rattled off 8-2, 3-0 and 11-3 victories to end the match and earn the 22-15 victory.
The Lakers will try to bounce back on Sunday with dual meets against Williams College and the University of Southern Maine in Williamstown, Mass.
