VERONA, N.Y. - The Oswego State men's tennis team (1-4) won its first two singles matches after dropping all three doubles matches, but was unable to draw any closer as the Lakers fell to Utica (2-0), 7-2, Wednesday at the Turning Stone Tennis Facility.

Dillon Corbett (Sr., Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) and Connor Rhodes (So., Lowville, N.Y.) were one game away from pulling out a win at No. 3 doubles as they held a 7-6 lead, but Utica's Sam Cotrupe and Matt Rogers won the next three service games to pull out a 9-7 victory to complete a doubles sweep for the Pioneers.

Sam Moores (So., Honeoye, N.Y.) picked up a point for Oswego State at the top singles spot by defeated Jon Gorman, 6-4, 6-3. Tim Van Hine, Jr. (So., Apalachin, N.Y.) followed suit with a win at No. 3 singles after defeating Raphael Warnon, 6-4, 6-3, to pull the Lakers to within one point.  Ben Weiss (Jr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was one set away from adding another point after wining the first set against Mike Zaloom, 6-1, but Zaloom battled back to win the second and third sets.

Oswego State hit the road on Saturday to face Daemen College at 7 p.m.
