Women's Lacrosse Falls to #4 Cortland, 15-5

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Fourth-ranked Cortland (9-1, 3-0 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early lead scoring six unanswered goals and never looked back, as the Red Dragons defeated the Oswego State women's lacrosse (4-5, 1-2) team, 15-5, Saturday afternoon.

Taylor Robinson got things started for Cortland in the first minute, scoring on an assist from Erica Geremia. The Red Dragons controlled play for the rest of the half, as the home team out-shot the Lakers, 20-2. Cortland received goals from Emma Hayes-Hurley, Tara Monaghan, Gina Campese and pair of markers from Maria Di Fato before Erannan Shattuck (Fr., Syracuse, N.Y.) silenced the scoring as a groundball pickup from Amanda Hagen (So., Coram, N.Y.) with 6:05 left in the half.

After another Cortland goal opened the second half, Shattuck scored her second goal of the game and assisted a Mackenzie Kjerstad (Jr., Baldwinsville, N.Y.) goal one minute apart, cutting the lead to 7-3.

The Red Dragons answered back, though, as they outscored Oswego State, 8-2, the rest of the way to end the game at 15-5. The remaining Laker goals came from Kjerstad and Courtney Cosentino (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.).

Shauna Hutchinson made three saves for Cortland, while Nikki Greco (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.) made 13 in the net for Oswego State.

The Lakers resume play on the road Tuesday versus Buffalo State at 4 p.m.
