OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team (16-18, 9-9 SUNYAC) won five of its last seven State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games to close the regular season, including a victory over top-seeded Brockport, to earn its second straight trip to the postseason and third overall.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults per day, $3 for children 12 and under, free for children 5 and under and free for SUNY students with ID. Weekend passes, which are valid for the entire duration of the tournament, are $10 for adults.
The Lakers sat at 4-6 in SUNYAC play after dropping the second game of a doubleheader to Potsdam, 3-1, on April 15. In the opening contest, Oswego State had done away with Potsdam in five innings in an 18-0 rout. However, the Lakers weren't able to come through with a sweep, and playoff hopes looked grim.
That was two weeks ago.
In the past 14 days, the Lakers went 5-3 in league play to claw their way back into the postseason picture, grabbing the No. 6 seed in this weekend's SUNYAC Championships. Oswego State maintained a positive attitude after losing to New Paltz in the first game of a doubleheader, coming back to win the following game in convincing fashion.
The Lakers then swept Oneonta, twice erasing deficits in extra innings to take the second game, 7-6, in 12 innings. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, freshman shortstop
Tori Trovato (Fulton, N.Y.) hammered a solo shot to left field to keep the game going. In the next inning, the Lakers fought back from two runs down to stay alive, before eventually triumphing in the 12th inning.
Splits against No. 4 Geneseo and No. 1 Brockport capped off the conference schedule for the Lakers, who finished 9-9, just ahead of Buffalo State (8-10).
Here's a breakdown of each individual opponent in the SUNYAC Tournament. Oswego State opens up the double-elimination tournament against Brockport on Thursday at 9 a.m.
