Utica, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team opened the season with a 10-6 win at Utica College on Saturday afternoon. Oswego's win came in comeback fashion, utilizing a stingy second-half defense.
Trailing 5-4 heading to the locker rooms at the half, the Lakers came out in the second poised for a victory, allowing just one goal in the final 30 minutes, outscoring the Pioneers 6-1 in the second half.
Oswego was led by a few players with
Erannan Shattuck recording a six-point day to start the year, scoring twice while assisting on four other Laker goals.
Emily Lange paced the Lakers in the scoring department, netting four goals in the contest.
Esther Gabriel was Oswego's other multiple-point getter, tallying three goals while distributing one assist for a four-point outing.
Senior
Nikki Greco was solid in net, stopping 16 Pioneer attempts while allowing just six goals. Greco was key in the final 30 minutes, allowing just one score on 10 shots on goal.

Kelsey Henderson (one assist) and
Candace Tarana (one assist).
Oswego will return to the field at 4 p.m. on Thursday when it travels to Rochester, N.Y. to take on the Tigers of RIT.
