Orlando, Fla. -- The Oswego State women's lacrosse team defeated Springfield College by a score of 5-4 at the Wide World of Sports on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers move to 3-1 on the young season while Springfield falls to 3-3.
Oswego kicked off the scoring just over four minutes into the first half when
Lindsey Eggers netted her second goal of the season on an assist from
Erannan Shattuck. The assist was Shattuck's team-leading seventh of the season.
Following a Pride score, Oswego would put two more goals on the board before the end of the half.
Emily Lange would score on an assist from Eggers and
Kelsey Henderson on a feed from
Esther Gabriel.
Oswego would push the lead to 5-1 in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Lange would score her second goal of the game and
Mackenzie Kjerstad would score her fourth goal of the year. Both goals were unassisted.
Springfield would chip away with three goals over the final fifteen minutes, but the Oswego defense held on for the victory.
Nikki Greco made seven saves on the afternoon to secure the win.
Oswego outshot Springfield 17-16 on the day and was the more efficient team in their clear chances (16-of-17).
Oswego returns to action at 10 a.m. on Monday as it takes on St. Joseph's-Long Island from the Skyline Conference.
