Lake Myrtle, Fla. – On Tuesday afternoon, the Oswego State baseball team pushed their record to 7-1 with a 10-3 win over Allegheny College. With the loss, the Gators fall to 6-3.
Oswego would find themselves down 2-0 in the top of the fourth when
Dan Saccocio led off the inning with a double.
Matt Capobianco reached on an error and
Tim Smith followed with a walk to load the bases. A
Mike McMullen sacrifice fly then cut the deficit in half.
Oswego struck again in the fifth as
Jordan Giller led off with a single. After a pair of strikeouts,
Dan Karleski singled to put runners on first and second. Saccocio got his second hit of the day when he singled Giller in to tie it up. Pinch-hitter
John Rauseo reached on an error to plate Karleski and give Oswego a 3-2 lead.
Allegheny tied it up in the bottom of the seventh only to see the Oswego offense explode to finish the game. McMullen got a lead-off single and was sacrificed to second. After a passed ball advanced him, Giller singled to bring home the go-ahead run.
Michael Mascari followed with a RBI-triple and
Tom Curry doubled him home. Curry later scored on a wild pitch to give Oswego a 7-3 lead.
Oswego tacked on a few insurance runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Zach Kollar led off with a single.
Eric Hamilton got Oswego's second triple of the game to score him and was plated by a
Matt Sumowski bunt. Giller and Curry followed with singles to score Sumowski for the final run.
Ryan Brinkman went five, allowing two runs and striking out five.
John-Michael Guarino picked up the win in two innings of relief work, allowing one run and striking out two.
The Lakers are back in action at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Lake Myrtle, Fla. as they take on Brockport in a SUNYAC doubleheader.
