Morrisville, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's lacrosse team scored nine goals in the first half on its way to a 17-6 rout of Morrisville State on the road Saturday afternoon. Oswego's win improves its early season record to 2-1 while the Mustangs fall to 0-1 as they lose their home-opener.
For the second-straight day the Lakers were led in points by
Erannan Shattuck and
Esther Gabriel, but on Saturday,
Kelsey Henderson joined the party. Each player finished with four points, with Shattuck doing the scoring with three goals and an assist. Henderson was the balanced attacker, finishing with two scores and two assists while Gabriel took the label of distributor, scoring once while giving out help on three Laker goals.
Mackenzie Kjerstad was the tallied three points on the day, tying Shattuck for a game-high three goals. Also gathering three points were
Becky Guess (two goals, one assist) and
Brittany Koelmel (one goal, two assists).
Rounding out the multiple-point getters for Oswego was
Kassie Kleine, who notched two scores.
Corinne Marsh,
Lindsey Eggers and
Candace Tarana all finished with one goal.
Nikki Greco played a full-game between the pipes for the Lakers, ending with seven saves in the contest.
As a team, Oswego caused 16 turnovers and outshot the Mustangs 37-17 over the 60 minutes.
Megan McNulty and
Melissa Bulman led the team with three caused-turnovers apiece. McNulty paced the Lakers with four ground balls as well while Guess, Koelmel, Eggers and
Amanda Hagen each collected three.
Oswego dominated Morrisville on the draw 16-9 with Gabriel (5) and McNulty (4) combining to match the Mustangs total draw controls in the game.
The Lakers will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Thursday when they travel to Potsdam, N.Y. to face Clarkson University.
