Balanced Pitching and Hitting Push Oswego Past Fredonia

Fredonia, N.Y. – The Oswego State baseball team downed host Fredonia 7-2 in a nine-inning game on Friday afternoon to kick-off a three-game weekend series with the Blue Devils. With the win, Oswego improves to 16-7 on the year and more importantly to 8-5 in the SUNYAC while Fredonia drops to 8-14, 3-7.

Brendyn Karinchak earned his fourth win of the season, going seven innings on the hill. The reigning starting pitcher the D3baseball.com Team of the Week allowed just one run for the second-straight game. Karinchak surrendered just six hits on the day while striking out two Blue Devils.

Pat Brown closed out the final two innings, giving up just three hits and a run while fanning four Fredonia batters.

At the dish, Scott Buniak led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, including a double and a steal, all which provided the opportunity to score three times. The senior also worked a walk in one plate appearance.  

Also having multiple-hit outings were John Rauseo (2-for-3) and Eric Hamilton (2-for-4). Rauseo drove in a run, scored two and swimped a bag.

Jordan Giller, Tim Smith and Dan Saccocio each recorded one hit, with all three batters driving in a run. Saccocio also had an RBI as his hit came in the form of a home run. Smith joined Saccocio with a run scored.

The two teams will be back at it starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday when they get together for a conference doubleheader.
